Custom Tile in Harwich, MA, Designed and Installed

Cape Cod Tileworks is Lane and Tom Meehan: a RISD-trained tile designer and a second-generation tile installer, creating mosaics, murals, showers and backsplashes for Cape homes.

Tile that looks like it belongs on Cape Cod

Cape Cod Tileworks has done custom tile in Harwich, MA for decades. In February 2022 the business marked 27 years in its Harwich building, and it still designs and installs tile projects. Its Facebook page sums it up in three words: design and installation.

The work is easy to spot. Pebble backsplashes with ceramic fish and a mermaid swimming across them.

Owner Lane Meehan is a RISD graduate who helps you pick the right tile, and Tom Meehan, a second-generation installer, sets it.

Custom tile in Harwich, MA: what Lane and Tom create

Custom mosaics and tile murals

One-of-a-kind pieces drawn for your house: a Cape Cod map set into a tiled wall, carved owls and flowers among river pebbles, sea life tucked into a backsplash. Lane designs the piece and it is laid out by hand before installation.

Bathroom and shower tile

From quiet marble-look porcelain with a woven border and niche, to 12 by 24 porcelain pulled together for a rich look, to navy herringbone. Builders like Schoolhouse Construction have used Cape Cod Tileworks on many bathroom remodels.

Kitchen and bar backsplashes

Backsplashes that tell a story or simply finish a kitchen well. One family bought tile for two new bathrooms here, then came back and had Cape Cod Tileworks install their kitchen backsplash, and called the results fabulous.

Fireplace surrounds

A fireplace is a natural place for something personal. Photos show a surround in cream pebble mosaic with small fish and reeds worked into it, framed by white painted trim, the same coastal style as their backsplashes.

Tile design and selection

Not every customer needs installation. Homeowners and contractors come to Lane for help choosing tile, then have their own builder install it. One couple says they were guided to the perfect tile for two new bathrooms, and another reviewer says the owner knows her stuff.

We used Cape Cod Tileworks for purchasing tile for our new addition bathrooms, to be installed by our contractor. They guided us to the perfect tile, both bathrooms turned out beautiful. Later when we remodeled our kitchen, Cape Cod Tileworks installed our back splash. Each time they made our remodeling process easier, with fabulous results. Great products and installation.

Questions about custom tile

Can you design a custom mosaic for my house?

Yes. Custom work is what Cape Cod Tileworks is known for: pebble backsplashes with ceramic fish and a mermaid, a tile map of Cape Cod, carved owls and flowers among river pebbles. Lane designs each piece, and they have written that they look forward to recreating a look for a new customer.

Do you install, or only sell tile?

Both. The Facebook page describes the business as design and installation. Tom Meehan, a second-generation tile installer, sets tile, and one family had their kitchen backsplash installed after buying tile for two bathrooms. Other customers have their own contractor install the tile Lane helps them choose.

Is the Harwich shop still open?

In February 2022, after 27 years, the business posted that it had walked out of the building for the last time, and that it is still here to help design your next project. Google still lists 705 Main St, Harwich, so call (508) 246-6324 before visiting.

Do you work with contractors?

Yes. Schoolhouse Construction Inc. says it has worked with Cape Cod Tileworks for many years on many kitchen and bathroom remodeling projects. Lane can help your builder pick materials, and the Facebook page shows before and after bathrooms done with Schoolhouse.

Can tile go outdoors?

Yes. In August 2021 Cape Cod Tileworks shared a project where a plain cement slab became a tiled outdoor living space. They wrote that tile is not just for inside the house. Call to talk about patios, outdoor showers or other outdoor ideas for your home.
